The new home of the Sacramento Kings, the Golden 1 Center, is set to become the techiest arena in the NBA when it opens in October later this year.
The focus on technology starts with connectivity. There are 1,000 Wi-Fi access points to handle the 17,500 fans who will be attending Kings games, as well as a full calendar of sports and entertainment events at what Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé refers to as a “21st Century Coliseum”.
Also located throughout the building will be beacons connected to the team’s official mobile app to push notifications to fans for food/retail promotions, the shortest restroom line, and more.
The tech-centric design principles cater to a fan base that’s the youngest in major sports, according to Kings President Chris Granger. In addition, Ranadivé believes technology drives demand to not only Kings games, but all events at the Golden 1 Center.
