A movement to bring Major League Baseball back to Montreal is gaining steam. A group of prospective investors have unveiled results of a recent survey to gauge the market’s interest and ability to financially support a baseball team.
The results showed great corporate and fan support, and that Montreal would rank 12th among the current 27 MLB markets, putting Montreal in a competitive position with other cities vying for an expansion bid. Charlotte, Portland, Las Vegas, San Antonio, and Monterrey, Mexico are also in the running.
Along with the recent survey, Montreal has also interviewed 13 local executives, finding that three-quarters of them would be interested in premium options with a MLB team, nearly half interested in suite options.
The city boasts a strong résumé with the 15th largest metropolitan population among MLB cities, 18th highest median income, and 19th most corporations with at least $5 million in sales and over 25 employees.
