Packers give premium seat holders radios to enhance experience

In an increasingly high-tech age, most sports venues are adding to Wi-Fi capabilities to allow fans to use social media and custom apps on tablets and smartphones. In Green Bay, Packers fans are being given radios at Lambeau Field.

The radio receivers mount on one’s ear and pick up audio from WTMJ (the team’s official radio station), the network TV broadcast, and NFL RedZone. An amenity given to premium seat holders, the radios are also available for purchase in the pro shop for $19.95.

The main benefit of the radios is information not readily available on video boards. Fans can remain up-to-date on player injuries, and Green Bay is the first team to include access to the NFL Redzone channel. Radio receivers have also been used in New Orleans, as well as in other sports and at other events.
