While a partnership led by Dr. Pete Edwards and Jimmy and Dee Haslam negotiate the purchase of the Columbus Crew, they recently announced the desired location for a new stadium, “Columbus Crew SC Arena”. The venue development is targeted near downtown Columbus in the new Confluence Village. This 33-acre parcel is currently controlled by the city of Columbus and Nationwide Real Estate Investments.
The proposed stadium calls for a flexible design to accommodate MLS matches, concerts, as well as international soccer matches. The current schedule for venue construction is to break ground in August of 2019 and reach its completion in March of 2021. Plans not only include a new stadium, but also a mixed-use district with assorted residential living spaces, commercial properties, and office areas.
