In 2018, the United States Supreme Court overturned the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992. Sports betting is now legal in 36 states and in Washington, DC, with 34 states having active programs. Mobile sports betting is growing with more than 26 states allowing bets to be placed through apps. States are establishing or expanding their gaming commissions to license and regulate sports betting and gaming.
