St. Louis Group Releases Stadium Renderings in Pursuit of MLS Expansion Bid

As MLS owners voted to continue the league’s expansion, the potential ownership group (World Wide Technology CEO Jim Kavanaugh and Enterprise Holdings’ Taylor family) of the St. Louis bid released conceptual renderings for what will become its permanent stadium should it be awarded an expansion franchise.

The ownership group is working with a design team from HOK and Snow Kreilich Architects to imagine the new build. Images depict an open-air, square-shaped venue with open ends, located in an area west of Union Station in downtown St. Louis. A natural grass pitch built 50 feet below street level is surrounded by two tiers of 22,000 total seats covered by a 200,000-square-foot roof canopy made of ETFE material to let sunlight in but keep rainfall off of fans.

The MLS expansion committee will hear “formal and final” plans from St. Louis and Sacramento in the next few weeks. Commissioner Don Garber hopes to make formal expansion announcements before the league’s All-Star game in July.
