Mobile applications have been transforming the event experience for sports and entertainment fans over the past few years. In Tampa Bay, the NHL’s early adopting Lightning are rolling out the next generation of app technology.
Through its mobile app FanCap, developed by Enthrall Sports, the team can communicate in real-time with fans, and all photos and videos shot by Lightning fans can be linked to screens throughout Amalie Arena.
But the groundbreaking feature of Enthrall’s technology, as it relates to game presentation, is its facial recognition capabilities. In addition to the tangible data that fans pass along to the team through mechanisms like polls, contests, or purchases, the Lightning can now document emotional sentiment to support continuing those presentation elements that work, and editing those elements that do not, which provides a fan-generated game experience and increased value to sponsors.
Enthrall, a Seattle-based company, is backed by Lightning owner Jeff Vinik.
