Good news, bad news for the roof at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The good news is the eight pedals that make up the operable roof are functioning. The bad news is they will remain fixed in a closed position indefinitely.
The complexity of the roof engineering is already responsible for multiple delays of the opening of the new home for the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United. The latest delay will not prohibit the building from opening, but final work on the retractable portion of the roof cannot be done concurrently with additional work necessary for the building to be operational. The roof is expected to be ready to open for events later this fall.
Remaining construction on the $1.5 billion stadium is almost complete, and the building will open its doors to the public for the first time when the Falcons play their first preseason game in August. All seats, concessions, and the hallmark halo board are ready for showtime.
