Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment and Scotiabank unveiled an outdoor 2,200-square-foot LED Signage display from LG Electronics. The video screen (with a 6mm pixel pitch) consists of 1,269 modules housed in 168 cabinets. Toronto sports fans can enjoy a superior viewing experience in Maple Leaf Square adjacent to the Scotiabank Arena. The installation aimed to merge technological and infrastructure innovations to create a world-class fan viewing experience outside the arena.
Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) and Scotiabank chose LG Electronics to enhance the fan experience in Maple Leaf Square adjacent to the Scotiabank Arena. The installation of the new LG outdoor LED Signage screen is part of the re-imagination of the famous Toronto sports complex during hockey games and Jurassic Park during basketball games. The installation marks the expanded partnership between MLSE and LG, which have a shared mindset of elevating every game for fans. The new screen in Toronto is the first of many state-of-the-art LG outdoor LED installations taking place in North America.
MLSE was making significant financial investments into the project and thus, were looking for ways to create cost efficiencies. Finding a product that was rated IP66 front and rear would allow for a design change of the enclosure leading to substantial savings.
Due to the complexities of the project and knowing there would be a lot of ongoing deployment management, MLSE was looking for a partner for the project, not simply a supplier.
LG’s 2,200-square-foot LED Signage display is 37 percent larger than the previous screen, creating an atmosphere unlike anything else in the city. The LG video screen was created with 1,269 modules housed in 168 cabinets that make up one single screen. Each cabinet is equipped with an IP-66 rating to ensure the highest level of protection and performance in any weather. Additionally, each module features a premium-tier chipset that provides rich, saturated colors and a high level of brightness to ensure quality display even in direct sunlight.
The installation of the new LG outdoor screen has given fans an outdoor viewing experience that has made Maple Leaf Square one of the best places to watch sports events in the city of Toronto. As part of the re-imagination of the famous sports complex, the new LG outdoor LED Signage is part of the first phase of the Scotiabank Arena revitalization project set to take place over the next few years and that will bring technological and infrastructural innovations to Maple Leaf Square.
